Nice Control System Empowers Wounded Veteran with Smart Home Independence
For U.S. Army Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Dennet Oregon, everyday tasks once required tremendous physical effort. After losing both legs to injuries sustained during combat in Afghanistan, simple actions like turning off a light or locking a door became significant challenges. Thanks to the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. program and Nice North America, Dennet now has the freedom to manage his home—and his day—with ease.
At the heart of Dennet’s newly completed smart home is the Nice control system, a comprehensive home management platform that brings lighting, shading, temperature, and entertainment together in one accessible interface. Custom-programmed by Modern Image Pro Audio Inc., the system was designed specifically to meet Dennet’s mobility and comfort needs, allowing him to control nearly every function of his home through his smartphone or voice commands.
With the Nice system, Dennet can:
Turn lights on and off or activate preset lighting scenes with one tap.
Adjust thermostats automatically through smart scheduling.
Open and close motorized shades throughout the home for privacy and light control.
Lock doors, open the garage, and manage security—all from his phone.
Stream music and access entertainment seamlessly in any room.
“The Nice Home Management system has helped make daily living inside the home a little easier as a double amputee,” Dennet said. “It’s such a relief when I’m sore from standing up in my prosthetics all day.”
By automating routine tasks, the Nice system conserves energy, enhances safety, and restores a sense of independence that extends far beyond convenience. As Danielle Karr, VP of Marketing at Nice North America, explained, “This partnership is about more than technology—it’s about restoring autonomy and honoring the Nice mission to improve everyday living.”
Through innovation and compassion, Nice North America and the Gary Sinise Foundation are proving that smart technology can do more than modernize a home—it can transform a life.
